So if I die prior to 75, my beneficiaries have 10 years to withdraw the money but if I reach 75 or later it is reduced to 5 years?? I'm confused, not sure if I'm reading this right

Re: Question's about retirement
Bubba, Those proposals have been going on for over a decade without going anywhere. Usually changes apply to new employees like when they increased the FERS contribution from 0.8% to 3.1%, or 4.4%. The cost of FEHB has always increased and covered less each year but it is still a really good deal co...

Re: TSP + Real Estate Mix
Question for others who have owned properties, I am particularly interested in warmer states (i.e. Florida, AZ, NM, even TX/LA/GA) because of the likelihood I may occupy it at some point. Texas has really high Property Taxes. Too many people here and hot & humid most the year. I go back and for...

Re: Question's about retirement
A very important thing I recently learned is that if you retire before the age of 62, then you don't receive any COLAs to your FERS until the age of 62. So, normally that's not a big deal, but there are quite a few expecting another bout of higher inflation coming our way (who really knows, right?)...

Re: Question's about retirement
I retired 4 years ago at 56 years old with 36 years of service. I’ve been taking a monthly distribution since I retired. I took a lot of risk when I was working and am now a little more diversified with C60 S16 F16 G8. My biggest question is, what is a good retirement mix? Im planning on leaving it...

Re: Future of 401k program
I started contributing 10% to TSP when I was 1st able to with the assumption that SS might not be around by the time I retired and don't plan on taking it until age 70 right about the time that SS is supposed to be running out of funds. Interesting article addressing crisis in early 1980's https://w...

Re: Unclaimed Property $$$
That's too bad md2018. In talking to someone, they said to submit whatever documentation you have. I got my check from Wyoming yesterday. They didn't even require any application. Still waiting on larger amount from Texas, but they processed several from 1989 that I didn't have documentation for oth...

Re: can you transfer some TSP to gold/silver IRA
I have bought some gold & silver from https://www.jmbullion.com/ & https://www.silver.com/ (which are basically the same company) about 5 years ago; they seem to be a little more expensive these days than the other sites. I like JMBullion's price history charts for the different metals but I...

Re: Million Dollar TSP!
I agree with GPIN & highly encourage retirement. How much money do you really need in retirement? Investment advisors like to use 80% of your salary but with a pension, I really think that should be less but it really depends on each person's situation. When they rolled out FERS...remember the 3...
