Re: FERS combined leave
Most people in congress don't care about federal workers anymore. The right cares about high defense spending and low taxes and the left cares about social programs and illegals(future votes when these people have children). They won't make tough decisions and cut the parts of the budget that take up...

Re: F Fund Blues
Some of us said a few years ago to stay away from the F fund in a rising interest rate environment. I hate to say I said so but I said so. The F is down 3% since Jan 2015.

Im 50C and 50G. Then if we have another crash like 08 I will put it all in S/C and let it ride for 10 years. You would be nuts to keep 50C/50G even after a 40% shave.

Re: Roth v Traditional Contribution
There should be no confusion on roth and traditional TSP contributions. The limit is 18500 for Roth and 18500 for traditional. Or you can use a mix of both such as 9200 for Roth TSP and 9300 for traditional. Ive been maxing out Roth TSP contributions for the past 5 years. The limit back in 2013 was ...

Re: Advice on Basic TSP vs. Roth TSP
Well after this crappy tax plan goes through you may not have those 7 personal exemptions anymore. That is 28K in additional taxable income Yes the standard deduction would go up to 24K from 12K but that is still 16K in additional taxable income. Now I have heard talk of raising the child tax credit...

Re: TSP.GOV
If you have a large account balance (say over 300K) and you make regular IFTs then it doesnt matter in the least how your bi-weekly contributions are allocated. Any contribution will be very small compared to your balance. And since you frequently move your funds then it just doesnt matter. It matte...

Re: Should I move to Roth TSP or stay with Traditional?
Go Roth. Taxes are historically very low right now but dont expect it to stay that way for too many more decades. I woudlnt shock me at all if future leaders put a cap on TSP accounts because you obviously dont need that much money. hehe

Re: TSP Loan for downpayment on 2nd home
Well. these condos are rented annually in an area with mainly professionals so renting wont be a problem. But I think Ive decided to not use my TSP--just money my wife has in her savings account. Its just sitting in the bank now and not being invested. I've always considered condos to be a bad inves...

TSP Loan for downpayment on 2nd home
My wife wants invest some of her money on a condo in south FL that we can rent out and then use as a retirement place after retire. We can just use her money and put 25% down which is the minimum. Or I could make a loan from TSP and we together could put 40% down. The interest rate on a TSP loan is ...

Look at the I fund performance over the past 10 days. This really makes me want to jump into the I fund headfirst, especially with whacked out religious savages overtaking the place in the next 20 years. < sarcasm. To each his own.

Re: What is PIP and how do I calculate it?
Its a rather meaningless parameter that varies according to whether the index was at a local max or min at the start of the period. So right now lets say that Jan 2016 was a great month for stocks and you got 7% PIP for the month and then for the year from Jan 01 2016 to Jan 01 2017 (the rest of the...
