Inactive Users Idea

Have you given any thought to editing profile to include viewable "Last Logon" information? After a certain amount of REASONABLE time, members could be considered INACTIVE preventing their placement on leaderboards. I'm not saying (unlike Yahoo's TSP Strategy) that members have to post messages, but if they aren't even logging onto the site in a long time (ie. six months, 9 months, etc.), they could be listed as inactive. Just a thought! Keep up the great work!!

I have thought about this but always backed off because I was just thinking about deleting the users entirely which seemed excessive. I like your idea since it just keeps them off the leader board while keeping their account active. Even better, the Leader Board (excluding Calendar Month leaders), gets recalculated every night rates are posted. So once a member logs in, they will be back on the Leader Board within a day.

So the question is, how much inactive time must pass for a member to be excluded from the Leader Board? And to restate Pro-Trader's definition of inactive, we're talking about simply logging into the site. No posting or other action is necessary to be considered active.

How does three months sound?

I've added 'Last Login' to the Account Summary page for now.

Three months is probably appropriate. I would suppose that you'll want to make certain accounts exempt from the timeframe. For example, the "fund hold" accounts. I noticed that the G HOLD account hasn't logged on since Nov 1999. Also, members who inform you of extended TDYs or deployments could be exempt as well. Just ideas to think about!!

I noticed that several people had "Last Login" dates prior to their join dates. I'm assuming that is due to the fact they haven't logged on since your web site changes? My brother joined on 15 Sep 08 and his last login date was 30 Nov 1999. If that's the case, I'd think you may want to consider an "EFFECTIVE DATE" (perhaps the day you updated the web site) to start the inactive period. Unless you know when their actual last login date was.... Just an observation... 8)

I fixed the problem. It affected users who signed up but never logged in. I'll remember not to exclude the Fund Hold accounts when I finish setting this up. This is actually a fairly simple fix so I plan to have it done before Monday's rates are posted.

I decided to use 30 days for defining inactive since the design allowed for immediate listing on the Leader Board once they login.
