This is my first post since becoming a member in October 2012. I am beginning to realize that I need to pay more attention to my TSP investments as these will be a primary source of income after retirement. Consequently, I have developed a TSP investment model. I have ranked all TSP funds relative to the S&P 500 ETF (SPY). It is no surprise that the S fund is ranked highest, currently, followed by the C fund. According to my model, only these two funds have a higher relative strength than SPY at the present time. The I fund is ranked third and has a slightly lower relative strength than SPY. From today onwards, I intend to base my fantasy TSP account on this newly created investment model. Therefore, today, I have gone 100% into the S fund, even though I realize that the market is getting somewhat toppy. Hindsight is 20-20 but my model actually flashed a buy signal for the S fund nearly 13 weeks ago. That is of no consequence now, and I hope, I am able to adhere to my model and report my actions in the future to determine whether my model makes sense or not.

Where do you get your RS from? Source wise I mean?

I calculate it. Rate of change for the fund minus rate of change for SPY over a fixed (arbitrarily chosen but reasonable) period of time.

I calculate RS using a weighted average of 20 day volatility, 20 day return and 3 month return.

The weights are 25%, 25% and 50% respectively.

Hello everyone. I worked at VA, most of my colleagues not so interested in managing their TSP investment due to lack of knowledge and being scared about the "market". This is a great site, I'm able to understand the intimidating world of stocks and investment. I am telling everyone about this site.

Hello, I am new to TSP Center. I am a government employee trying to understand TSP investment strategies. I am hoping I can learn a thing or two in order to maximize gains.

Welcome. Use the Fantasy $100,000 and study much prior to playing with your real TSP account and read much.

TSPking,
Great site. The fact that you are using the actual daily data from TSP.gov as the data engine is invaluable. Plus the seasonal calculator can help any layman get started in thinking differently about the markets in general. There is an ebb n flow to all things, markets included. Keep up the great work.

Hi,
I am employed by the USDA and plan to retire by December 2014. It is my goal to learn from the information on this site to help my decisions regarding the TSP account. I am looking forward to learn how the TSP fantasy works and what I can learn from it.

Thanks,

Juan
