Newbie

Post by ElmerFudd »

Hi All, I just signed on to the site. I've admired how well the site is developed for folks that want to exchange info on maximizing their investment returns. I've been an investment dope for many years, and decided that I'd better try to get a little smarter with this before I retire in a few years. I wish I'd had more interest at a younger age, but I guess there's no time like the present to try to do something about it. Age:55, Federal Technician for a little over 20 years. My goal is to pay more attention to my TSP investment, and to use this site to help inform me better about maximizing my retirement savings.

Welcome. There's a wealth of good information here and most members are very happy to answer questions. If you haven't already, I would suggest reading the Seasonal Musing 2017 thread. If you're wanting to adopt a seasonal strategy, Aitrus had done a spendid job of laying out the data to help make a decision. Good luck!

Welcome, ElmerFudd! Lots of other knowledgeable people her other than myself. Don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have.

Federal Technician - Guard or Reserve Technician, I'm guessing?

Thanks for the welcome, (galveston1 and Aitrus). Yes, I'm a Guard Technician. I'll be taking a look at those recommendations and info about seasonal investment strategies. I used to think this stuff (finance and investing) was sooo dry, and that I could never wrap my head around it, untill I recognized that I can‘t afford to ignore it if I want to be able to enjoy my retirement years. I've been pretty good at having a decent amount being allocated toward TSP, but it's been a whole different story about me doing anything to manage what's there. I'm eager to get a better sensibility about investment, and this seems like a good place to get ideas from folks that know their way around the markets better than me. Thanks again, Elmer F.

No problem, Elmer. I'm Civil Service and a DSG weekender, but I was a technician for about a year a while back (2008 - 2009). That's when I first started giving a darn about what was happening in my TSP. I had been contributing since 2002, but 2008 woke me up and I started paying more attention.

Aitrus, ...glad to hear you're a DSG, keep up the great work with the seasonal investing info brother.

repinda808, yes, I did begin reading Aitrus' posts last night, and I feel like I'm already getting just the kind of info here that I had hoped when I joined this site. Now, instead of being clueless, I have half a clue. Can't wait till I check out some more of this site and maybe one day I can call myself a junior apprentice investment nimrod ! Thanks, Elmer F.
