Tempted to jump to I fund
I am so tempted to jump to I fund. It's been really great since day 1 in May and well before that. But I'll stick with C this month.
Anyone thought of jumping to I fund when it's at high right now?

Don't do it. The Macron win didn't have much effect. Don't buy high.

Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
After talking with cswift01 about extending exposure in the I fund into May a couple weeks ago, I did some research on the best time to switch out of the I fund into the C fund. I just looked at the prices in TSP. What we are seeing would fall in line with what has happened not only over the last 5 years, but generally about average since the inception of the I fund. Its not 100%, but its enough that I noticed a pattern. The best time to get out of the I fund it would seem would be May 6-8 and into the C fund. I wish I had followed cswift01 and my research, but I am trying to stick to seasonal. The one time I varied this year I cost myself 3%, so I'm sticking to it!

Glad I stayed in I Fund, since 21 Apr it is up 5.75%
Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
Careful timing the market - I fund will rocket give it a few for the market to digest Macron win.
Macron will deliver for France and the EU. And just so we are clear this is no where near the high for EFA. 5 year high was around $70.55 and the ATH around $85. Still a lot of growth to be had. EFA has been "recovering" for the better part of 5-7 years. It's time for the EFA to reach ATH and grow! You should have 3-7 years of 30-60% growth in this fund. Just have to take emotion out of it and enjoy the ride! Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but the I fund has no emerging markets in its holdings. I believe it is 60% Europe and 40% Japan/China.

The risk/reward ratio to buy the I fund seems too high now. But I thought that last week when I submitted my IFT. A little late but captured a good gain on Fri. But as things are going this morning, looks like we stand to give back some of the gains. EFA has been on a flat line (-0.75% to -0.80%) from the open. But that’s not the big question. What we expect to have made when the position is closed, is the question each day. As far l can see none of the stock or bond funds are in a real good risk/reward stance today. Everything is down VIX, bonds too, (the G is temping). But who knows, by EOD we may be “Off To The Races” again.

Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
With I being down today, it is definitely tempting to split it out between C and I... I may give in, who knows.
Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
You are right, John316, except the China part. No China, no Canada, no emerging markets.
Europe – 63%
Japan – 24%

Majority of fund is in Europe & Asia but none in China
Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
I guess depends on what your definition of "emerging market" is but your correct it is Japan/EU.
Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
Made the jump. I like the sale price.

Re: Tempted to jump to I fund
I increased I Fund exposure (Decreasing S & F), EFA is down more than DWCPF currently but it is always hard to guess with 12:00 cut off, it is always a gamble as to how the markets will close. I do think kaciemen is correct in outlook of I Fund even though it doesn't include emerging markets.

Here's an article posted today for further consideration regarding the I-Fund and international markets in general.
