I assume they are more like mutual funds than ETFs because they trade more like mutual funds.

ETFs trade on the spot like stocks. Mutual funds and TSP funds do not.

I think so too. Like mutual funds, TSP only updates after trading.

Funds are generally broken down into two categories, index funds and mutual funds. These terms are used colloquially to refer to the underlying objective of a fund.

Index funds can be mutual funds or ETFs (exchange-traded funds) that track an index, such as the S&P 500 Index

"Mutual funds" typically refers to actively managed funds that employ stock pickers with the goal of beating the market's performance by employing professional stock pickers who aim to generate market-beating performance. These funds can be categorized as having a higher cost of ownership due to the additional overhead expense associated with paying for professional stock analysts.

An ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) is a diversified collection of assets (like a mutual fund) that trades on an exchange (like a stock) = low cost and tax efficient way to invest.

From TSP: "The F, C, S, and I Funds are index funds, each of which is invested in order to replicate the risk and return characteristics of its appropriate benchmark index."

Found it: They must be Index funds made up of mutual funds...

From Motley Fool

"On the other hand, mutual fund transactions are cleared in bulk after the market closes. Thus, if you put in an order to sell shares of an index mutual fund at noon, the transaction will actually take place hours later at a price equal to the value of the fund at market closing time. Typically, the cutoff time is 4 p.m. Eastern time. Orders that are entered after the cutoff are pushed into the next day and completed at the price a day later.

If you're a trader, this matters. If you're an investor, it really doesn't matter much at all."
I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.
