Hi, for anyone who may be reading, but I don't intend for these posts to make a lot of sense. I wanted to track my line of thinking, compare returns without contributions affecting the returns, and see whether or not my gambles have paid off.

I'm very aggressive, or maybe just young and stupid. Working for the man since 2013, but contributions stayed in G, relocated things to L2050 just in time to lose some money in 2015 or 2016, not a lot, but enough to kick myself and make dumb moves that continue to not pay off, like sold in May 2017 without researching thoroughly. Only got back in in Aug by chance due to helping someone rollover a 401k. Was in I trying to get those awesome returns. PIP for the past 12 months ending 12/31/2017 is 18.94%, barely beating out L2050.

New year, new you. So happy to have found this website. Going to try 20015... sort of. Only transferred half and it went into G instead of F because there were so many posts about how uncertain F has been. Was freaking out Friday last week trying to decide what to do as CSI seemed to drop over the weekend in past years. But there were a few posts on the forum suggesting 2018 was going to be another 2017 so no changes.

Trying to max out TSP, 943.80 was contributed 1/11/2018. IFT to S is sched for 1/19. May do it early and may only move half... S did great yesterday...

Thanks Anne!

Just took a look at the charts and since everything was lower where they had been higher (but everything still higher than where they opened), I impulsively submitted and IFT to half I and half S. Talk of gov shutdown on 1/19... I will be on vacation...

947.08 contributed to I fund on 1/25/2018. At least I bought low. Not really sure if these charts are showing what I wanted to see, will have to poke around and find out if I can see actual returns from my real account on here...

Also saw that by mid March 2017, 22575 was clearly above CSI. Will have to check about other years and other strategies.

I don't think you will be able to track with too much fidelity here. I know there are some options to include your actual balance but I don't think individual contributions can be tracked in that much detail--best to rely on your actual account. I believe there may be other sites or apps with better tracking based on what others have posted but I just rely on TSP.gov if I want accurate info. Maybe others can share links to other options.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions Anne, I was going to check out the TSP analyzer, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Was looking for something web based.

947.08 contributed to G fund on 2/9/2018. I switched it from I to G and then I realized the implications of my actions. If I thought that things were going to go down further and didn't want to lose more money, I should have IFT'd it all to G... Things aren't looking good right now. Had a vague feeling to switch into CSI earlier in Jan and then to switch out towards the end (actually this was based on looking at the past few Jans back to 2011 and found that the good days to get in S/I were: 3, 20, 6, 13, 1, 1, 7 and good days to get out were: 25, 29, 27, 22, 25, 27, 27. Very labor intensive since I haven't invested time into programming... I probably need to learn how to program...), but I didn't act on it. I hate to base future moves on vague feelings and 7 years of data, but it's hard seeing as how that would have saved me from missing out on growth in Jan and now losses in Feb.

I need to keep better track, but it looked as if 22575 was clearly above CSI for most years by spring. Also going to look at 28260 since F has not been good to people. 27992 also looked appealing.

Still don't know what I'm doing and still having trouble committing to a plan. Missed out of the growth of my contribution because I put it into G. Looks like the more aggressive people are following a plan into the F, lots still upset with F are going into G. Some even more aggressive are going into CSI. I put some in everything and don't know what to hope for and maybe that's best.

Everybody's risk tolerance is different--looks like you have a 50/50 split between G/F & C/S/I. Looks like you only have about 5 years with the government. How many years until to retirement? Take a look at Atrius' Seasonal Musings 2018: http://tspcenter.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=68314 I have issues with moving 100% but I only came across this site late in my career and am now retired. Keep reading different sources about investing and learn as much as you can...it will pay off down the road.
