Following a daily seasonal leader

Following a daily seasonal leader
So when using the Daily Seasonal Strategy, Do you all just follow whatever strategy is #1 at the time and if it changes you change with it? Has this helped anyone increase their returns?
Just general curiosity...
Still debating the merits and starting to lean towards following a daily strategy...
The switch, for me should not be a hard one because I currently am running a seasonal strategy, just not a daily one...
Many Cheers!

Re: Following a daily seasonal leader
I jumped in the 10716 in Aug from the "clapper" monthly. Daily 7980 is another popular daily. Sept seems to have the most variation in the dailies that I am looking at.
For me... Daily 10716 except for the second half of Sept. I am probably going to stay "F" which is more like the 7980 daily. But I will follow 10716 to "G" and most likely finish out the year in the 10716.

I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.

That won't necessarily work. It might end up that when the leader changes, the IFT required to follow the new leader may not be available to you due to following the "old" leader. I don't think it's recommended either, however. Because a new leader will be due to the recent performance earlier this year. and the rest of what matters is in the future. In reality, most leader followers should be following 11006. But that's the same for the rest of the year as 10716 so it doesn't matter. If you plan to adopt this strategy of switching to the new leader, you should do it come December 31 then follow that strategy for the whole year.

I spent some time trying to figure this question out as well. Ultimately, I spent time on TSPCalc playing with filtering options and found a strategy that makes sense to me (7980 kept showing up).
When looking at my options, most strategies were VERY similar in the big picture, so I stopped stressing about it, screen captured the calendar for 7980, set my work calendar to remind me on the mornings of moves, and spend my time trying to learn other stuff.
I figured I can let it run for a year while I try to become the next Jim Cramer!

Following the leader strategy is the equivalent of following any fund that of which is currently making money, you'd be chasing your tail around in circles. I think that if perhaps you review the different strategies you can make an educated choice on which one best suits your needs. I am following #7980 based on the historical returns and with hope the future ones will be as generous to me. I had previously followed individual leaders and then the seasonal TMJ100. I also let my TSP ride a year or two back and lost 12% of my real money which hurt. Good luck, there is a lot of good info here and some amazing people to help us!

Re: Following a daily seasonal leader
Chulke,
If I were to start today, I would look at which strategy returns the highest returns for the next 3 months (Oct-Dec). That's what would make the strategy pop for me. Like others have mentioned here, the current leader is heavily influenced by what's just happened, not necessarily what's historically been the best performer in the next few months.
