Power of attorney for TSP

Power of attorney for TSP
If I become incapacitated (coma, Alzheimer's) but not dead, will a general power of attorney document allow my spouse to access my TSP account or do I need to use their "special" form. Could I fill one out and have it in my safety deposit box, or does it need to be filed immediately with the TSP? Anyone have experience with this?
Re: Power of attorney for TSP
I'm not sure if a General POA would suffice for the TSP. I used the TSP's POA to ensure my wife could access those funds should I become incapacitated. Once you file the POA with TSP they will send you a document that along with certain pieces of info (can't recall off the top of my head what those are) your spouse will need in order to access those funds. I do believe this is the most simple way of ensuring your spouse can access those funds if needed.
Re: Power of attorney for TSP
I don't have experience but I have both- a completed TSP beneficiary form on file with the TSP and a power of attorney with medical directives (she can pull the plug). I think that would cover all situations. I also ensured my HR had the most recent TSP beneficiary form (along with FERS and FEGLI beneficiary forms) on file. All this I printed out and keep with my living trust. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info.
