Who benefits from a bad IFT
Does anyone or thing benefit from one or a series of bad IFTs

Yes. The ones off the top of my head are traders who get to charge a fee to Blackrock for buying and selling shares; Blackrock because they probably get overhead that has profit built into it that they get to charge for more activity; lastly, whoever bought your shares if they go up the next day or sold to you those shares if they go down.ProduceMan wrote:Does anyone or thing benefit from one or a series of bad IFTs
OCTOBER: This is one of the peculiarly dangerous months to speculate in stocks in. The others are July, January, September, April, November, May, March, June, December, August, and February. - Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar

Hopefully the perpetrator of the series of bad IFTs learns not to make ill timed IFTs. This is a place where participating in the Fantasy Game may help. By simply being able to view where the top 5 YTD Players are invested should be an indictor not only of increasing the value of your TSP Account but how to preserve it in down moving times of the market. Applications of calculating historical market positions on a given day, week, or month may seem a good path to follow but oftentimes these programs fall short. Additionally it must be remembered that the Fund of last year (F Fund) or month (I Fund) can change significantly with world, economic and political events. To me the best indicator of where to place your IFT is where the YTD Leaders have their money. Tommie I was so glad to see you finally exited the F Fund. Now I have to figure out if three days from now I should make my second IFT. Good luck to all and learn from your IFT mistakes.

I disagree very strongly with your statement "Just follow the IFT of the current YTD leaders." You're asking someone to follow the extreme tail end of the bell-curve, these results are NOT typical and IMO are based mostly on luck. Not only that, past success does NOT guarantee future results. Its better to have your strategy and stick to it, IMO, then start chasing after someone else.crondanet5 wrote:Hopefully the perpetrator of the series of bad IFTs learns not to make ill timed IFTs. I follow a monthly seasonal strategy from gclapper (slightly modified). Its moves can be found by searching for strategy number #25727 on http://www.tspcalc.com
