Investment gain & Performance %
On the annual TSP statements we are given a performance amount and percentage for the year. Does anyone know how they determined that data? I’m sure there are several ways to determine performance and I’m trying to determine how they went about determining their amounts. Right now I track Investment gains as beginning of year dollar amount minus current dollar amount minus this year’s total TSP purchases. This formula shows how much profit/loss amount for the year. For performance %, I divide investment gain by current TSP value. This shows, I believe, the current YTD gain/loss percentage for the year. This sounds correct to me; however, I was wondering if anyone was using any other methods that they may be willing to share. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

For performance in terms of percent, I would think they use:
Code: Select all
(Ending Balance - Contributions - Starting Balance) / Starting Balance * 100

As you can see, TSP Center has some serious political backing
