I Fund

Post by VJoe571 »

I noticed that the membership allocation is still moving to the I fund, but the I fund continues to falter.

Is there something I'm missing?

Sounds like a good idea for a poll, Aitrus or skiehawk11 .

Why are you transferring to the I fund, even as it continues to falter?

1- I just now realized I needed to get with the seasonal program.
2- Many people have transferred, who am I to think I know better.
3- I think bombing Syria will help international stocks.
4- I am buying at cheaper prices that a lot of the “Leaders”. This is a chance to beat them.
5- Both crondanet5 and Tomanyiron are in the G fund. My system says that’s a buy signal.

VJoe,

The I fund is statistically the place to be in April.
The I fund blew away the C and S funds in March.
And despite the headwind of the dollar being up so far in April, through April 10th the I fund is second best so far during April.

That's something any member can do. Just start a new thread, and enter the poll options at the bottom of the screen. Pretty simple to do.

My theory is that there is a lot of foreign money in the US stock market right now. With some countries paying near zero and even negative interest rates, where else are they going to their money? With interest rates beginning to normalize worldwide, I expect a lot of this to leave US stocks and go back home (or to bonds, money markets, and such). It's all about supply & demand. I just think I Fund is a safer bet right now, but keep your eye on the buck.

My feeling is that many foreign stocks have been undervalued for years, in part because the ECB didn't start to get involved in quantitative easing until after the Fed did so. Now that they are full force in the easing and economies are picking up again (like Spain) then you will see foreign stocks doing better. Add to the mix that Japan is (surprisingly) doing well and the UK has reached a momentary bottoming of its Brexit situation, then its a perfect situation for the I Fund to do better. That's just my opinion (without the use of nice graphs from the others), so others might be more accurate. ;-)

Best,

Me

If I were looking to buy this market, I believe I would wait until Tuesday the 18th to get in, (after Easter, and tax day). History of the market seems to show better odds the last 2 weeks of the month.

Better odds "as in cheaper share prices" or better odds "as in the stock market will go up again?"

The "Odds", if you want to call it that were skewed a lot by April 2000.
Anyone remember April 14, 2000 (Good Friday same as this year)? But they called it “Bleak Friday”, it was Number 7 of the top 10 Dow Jones Drops of all time.

Some suggest that getting into the S&P before Tax Day makes more sense.

Also, the upward turn in EFA today appears to be due more to the dollar than to the world markets themselves.

Earnings season is just getting started, so C and S could potentially do well. I'd proceed with caution.

I fund has outperformed C and S in Mar, and GClapper's seasonal mix, which I'm not the only one following, moved to I for the month of April.

I fund not so hot this month, lets hope the second half of the month puts us in the positive for April. Not sure how bad the dropping of the bomb last night is going to hurt this fund. Today will tell how bad it is going to be.
