My research shows the last time was 28 June 2016, but that corresponded to the whole Greece defaulting on its debt, and the I fund when down 2.95% and 7.88% the two previous days.
Prior to June 2016 (it also happened 20 June that same month) the last time was 18 March 2015 when it went up. 2.58%. Prior to that it was 18 September 2013 when it went up 2.96%.

The I fund is fairly well known for volatility. I would bet it happens about once a year. KWG's research sounds about right.

28 Jun 2016 was the Brexit vote shock/reaction, the Greek default was a few days later

Don't know the last time it happened. But sure am happy to have been in the I fund yesterday.

Re: When Was the Last One-Day 2½% I Fund Leap?
Yesterday probably had a lot to do with the French elections. Basically the thought was the if Le Pen won, the EU would be in an extremely bleak place going forward. After the results came in and ALL "losers" backing the other guy, the markets likely considered Le Pen's chances of winning near 0. Obviously the election isn't over and should things continue with Le Pen not looking like she has a shot, the market should continue it's path up as the money starts to shift back into European funds (and to an extend the whole market). If somehow Le Pen wins, watch for the I fund to have a bad couple of days (and potentially beyond)....
