So in essence, because they have funds that are very equivelent to our tsp funds, we can roll over, and still follow our Seasonal Mixes? I suppose it could make sense for me after I turn a certain age.

Not arcane, actually makes TSP more flexible for retirement.

To each his own, it would seem. I like the TSP, so that's where I'll stay. It's a system I know and am comfortable with. Others feel differently, and that's fine. I wish them the best.

Meh... have a lot of years left. We'll just see the landscape at that time and decide from there.

The funds you list have only been in existence since the end of 2009...it will be interesting to see how they fare in a bear market or recessionary period given the stated risks. It still floors me why anyone would want to roll TSP over to IRA and use same/similar funds.

How would an index fund that matches the S&P perform any differently than the C fund during a bear market; they both will take a nosedive if you stay in them. That's the point of the seasonal strategies: to move out of that fund when it will be statistically down.

And Schwab/Fidelity/Vanguard IRA's allow more IFT moves than TSP which is one big advantage and allow you to control your withdrawals any way you want which is another big advantage.

 Read the prospectus for Schwab EFTs http://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/inv ... nformation, some of the risks include Derivative Risk, Liquidity Risk, Securities Lending Risk, Concentration Risk and Market Trading Risk
Market Trading Risk. Although fund shares are listed on national securities exchanges, there can be no assurance that an active trading market for fund shares will develop or be maintained. If an active market is not maintained, investors may find it difficult to buy or sell fund shares.
The Schwab stock funds that oldjack references are not directly comparable to C or S funds although he claims they do much better. I'm sure that there are some that have comparable or better funds but you need to read the prospectus. If you are comfortable with the risks, go for it, do it now and compare your outside returns to the TSP.
As far as the withdrawals, you need to be aware of the IRS rules for IRA withdrawals--especially prior to 59.5. https://www.irs.gov/retirement-plans/pl ... tributions
