IFTs and Gains/Loss Question

Post by hmarkway »

So I have a what is likely a very elementary question, and I haven't been able to gain clarity on from my tsp.gov digging. If you put in a IFT by noon EST, the move is completed BY the end of the day. So you earn the gains/loss of the fund you are moving OUT of on that day, correct? Like for the daily folks leaving S fund today, their funds would earn today's "S" movements and then be moved into I/F at the end of the day's share prices. Am I understanding this correctly? Does it happen at 4pm when the markets close?
Current Allocation: 50/50 split F/G Funds, as of 1/3/2018
Strategy: Loosely following Daily Seasonal #16198 until I figure out my 2018 plan when all the main plans start diverging.

Yes, the trade is initiated today. You would get the gain/loss at close for S Fund. You buy at F fund open tomorrow morning.

You are understanding it correctly. The transaction happens after the close today. As long as you did it before noon today.
100% in the daily system since August 2, 2017.
Following strategy (current pick) #88676. 2020 real life has been following #110838

That's awesome! I was really bummed about my IFT to F. Now then, let's see how I feel tomorrow... #trusttheprocess

You actually buy the F Fund at today's closing price. Anyone doing IFT should get confirmation email after hours that tells you info is available on TSP website
