Any 7980 followers thinking about swapping G for F?

Post by opg »

I understand, "Stay on target." Just curious if anyone that moved to I fund yesterday is thinking about going straight to G instead of F this Thursday.

Thanks!
All in with 7980.

It's tempting, but the F fund just doesn't typically have the same type of giant swings that the C,S,I funds do. So I'm perfectly content to stay the course.

Most monthly seasonals also are in "F". F or G isn't going to make that much of a difference. Personally...I would stick with "F" transfer on the 21st.

If I had another IFT then I would be going into F on the 21st; so I will ride out "I" and fall back on G when the voices tell me to do so.

I'm going to stay the course in #7980 which I believe is the only way to tell if this strategy is going to work.

I've deviated a little at times when it comes to the G or F dilemma. For the most part, they are "safe" but with the really low std dev on 7980, I'd stay the course. I chose to just go F yesterday instead of I for a couple days, and look where that got me today :) lol. Then again, I never know what I fund will end up at after conversions, but usually if the ETF ends on a positive, it is a good day for I....usually

Just had a conversation yesterday that made me convinced that moving to G vice F was a fair bet. But then the hypocrisy kicked in and I found myself reliving all the times I told folks to just stick with the plan. Arrgggg. Good thing it's talk like a pirate day! My thoughts are that if folks start tweaking a plan on the fly they are fighting against themselves in many cases. Now, I'm not talking about changing a plan to meet their expectations but constant tweaking. I won't go and say that tweaking is always wrong because I'm no pro. Some of you are much smarter than me on all this.

Still...it would appear to me that for those of us just starting out with a daily strategy that it might be a good idea to stick with it for at least a few months if not a full year to see how it all shakes out. Learning to be patient through the inevitable dips and less than hoped for returns could be instructive all by itself.

YMMV.

L Income seems to be more consistent to me. I don't know.

Great post and absolutely true. I learned the hard way last year when I went off plan for July 2016. Plan called for C Fund... I went F Fund... lost out on 3%. Still kick myself in the tail, but hey... can't fool me again now. ;)

I find myself in inner turmoil over this week or two of trades. The leading plan says F then later I, while 7980 said I then F on Thursday. F just seems so... disappointing. But if we decide we are going to anti up and give these daily seasonals a try, we need to do so whole heartedly and not second guess the numbers. That's how we all ended up here in the first place, isn't it? We stink at trying to figure this out on our own!

Second guessing is not a negative thing IMO. It's good to keep your eyes open. If you have reasonable certainty that F will be negative during those trading days then by all means adjust. That reasonable certainty is the tricky part. It's your money. I'm on the fence too if that helps. Time will tell.
Here is a thoughtful article. I'll be following this author. I didn't feel she was misleading at all and provided good insight.

To be honest, I've been considering swapping L Income for the F fund. It seems to have been far less volatile YTD and a slightly better return. I know it's not exactly the same, but F fund just seems so darn unpredictable.

New to the forum and just learning about the 7980 strategy. Curious as to how long the 7980 strategy has been implemented. Is this a new strategy or one that has been around for years? Some of these yearly returns are really amazing. Thanks for all the information!! This forum has been a great tool.
