Tax Reform

Post by NotSoGood »

Anyone else watching what is happening with the tax reform proposal and planning on any trades given possible various outcomes?

Na. Tax reform will get done. Issue right now is slight market correction where congress announced the corporate tax cuts won’t go in affect until 2019. The market was ahead of itself by thinking it was going into affect as early as 2018. Stick to your plan!

I'll echo n.shift... stick to your plan.

Yes, I am. Here's the current status: Both the House and Senate have introduced differing versions. Each has to pass their respective chamber of Congress (the House may vote as soon as today, but the 4 hour debate period was postponed last evening with 1 hr 38 min remaining), then a conference committee will be stood up to negotiate a final piece of legislation. Once the conference committee finished their work, the legislation has to pass both chambers again before it goes to the President for signature.

Under the reconciliation instructions passed with the budget earlier in October, it is still possible for conference to occur and a final bill being passed before the end of the year.

I believe it will get passed this year. I'm hopeful it will result in another nice run for the bulls.

As an update, debate has resumed as of 9:18 this morning; once debate has concluded, the vote will occur (likely anytime between 10:45 to 11:00).

Yep. I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'm not changing my strategy. It'll either pass or it won't, but the sun will still rise tomorrow and I still have to show up for work.

The House could pass it today. The Senate cannot lose more than 2 votes...sounds like what happened with the heathcare. Let's hope not.

Yes, let's hope not. Wish they would pass something good for once.

Now I am watching it with a side eye to see what the Senate will do. Trying to stay focused on the prize investment wise and trying not to be influenced enough to change strategies. No pressure :-)
