G Fund

Post by HazMatt17 »

Okay, so now that I've had the chance to play with the TSP calc, here's my next question. In the daily strategies, what is the thinking with moving everything into the G fund for a couple of days here and there?

You only have 3 IFTs per month, and if a strategy utilizes the G fund at any point, it's because historical trends during that time are significant. I've learned, sometimes the hard way that if it says G, go G. Also, it ultimately lowers your exposure to the stock market annually thus giving you a little more protection when there's major market corrections. Hope this helps, if not could you explain your question more?

I thought you only had 2 IFTs per month?

Has it changed to 3? If it did, when did it change?

Learning as I go.

You have 2 IFTS upfront, however after those 2 IFTS you have unlimited transfers to G Fund.

Even if your first 2 IFTs for the month were to G you can only move to G after those 2, so only 2 opportunities to move between all the funds except G.

The 3rd transfer is only available to the G Fund. This is a safety measure in case you need a safe place to put your money if you start to see problems in the market.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but after using your first two IFTs, you could then move increments to G for the remainder of the month, correct?

Ex. IFT 100% to C on 3rd trading day
IFT 100% to I on 10th trading day
IFT 20% to G 15th trading day. IFT another 20% to G 16th trading day. IFT another 20% 17th trading day, etc.
