recommendation for strategy
Since my tsp account only allows IFT every 15 days, what's the best tspcalc strategy do you recommend?
Re: recommendation for strategy
Are you sure it's only one every 15 days? Or is it two per month? There is an important difference.sbarman wrote:Since my tsp account only allows IFT every 15 days, what's the best tspcalc strategy do you recommend?
Re: recommendation for strategy
every 15 days, I confirmed it.
Re: recommendation for strategy
That's a new system to me. I don't think any of the current strategies take that into account. You will need to create your own using the calculator at the top left. I would start with one of the monthly seasonal mixes and go from there. The filters will also be useless to you. If thats actually the case...: good luck.sbarman wrote:every 15 days, I confirmed it.

Re: recommendation for strategy
Would you mind showing/telling us where you confirmed this? I am still a novice in TSP but I thought it was all under the same system.sbarman wrote:every 15 days, I confirmed it.

Rog, appreciate that info.sbarman wrote:we are not a federal organization but have similar tsp concept

Oh that makes more sense. I really thInk you would need a calculator that has new restrictions built in. I could creste one or two or a dozen. But what's great about what MJ has created is the ability to compare the thousands already there. And you would have no way to filter out the ones that fit into your restrictions. You would need to keep a running list of which ones meet those guidelines. More trouble than it's worth I think. (Well maybe not to you)
I suggest creating one based on one of ours that you iike then sliding the days around until the fit into your criteria.

Are you a federal employee participating in the Federal Thrift Savings Plan?
Re: recommendation for strategy
Where do you work? What came to mind with OP was the military, who get paid on the 1st & 15th but they have same rules a civilians for IFTs. Are you sure your IFTs are limited? If you are limited on the IFTs, I agree with forest's recommendation. Play with the strategies @ TSPCalc...it can be quite addictive. Another option is to use one of the monthly strategies that only require 1 IFT per month.
Re: recommendation for strategy
Here's what I've come up with:
#23979
I'd call it acceptable. But slide the days back and forth and I bet you can get the mean higher and/or the std deviation lower.

Re: recommendation for strategy
It is possible for me to write a custom sorting algorithm and send you a list of matching strategies. There would be a fee involved. So send me a PM if you are interested.

Here's another one http://tspcalc.com/seasonal.php?ID=23990&years=04-17
25.41% Mean
9.54 SD
16 IFTs
You can filter by #IFTs (24 or less, guessing 12-16 Range would require less modifications) and any other criteria you wish
Another http://tspcalc.com/seasonal.php?ID=23998&years=04-17
27.7% Mean
12.23 SD
13 IFTs

Re: recommendation for strategy
Here's another one: what do you mean you can only IFT every fortnight? There is no such restriction in Federal Thrift Savings Plan. What program are you in?
Re: recommendation for strategy
Unfortunately I can't go into details of where I work, but rest assured the 15 day IFT is correct in my organization. Strategy 23990 is pretty good. 23998 would have been better if not for the Nov IFT which violates the 15 day IFT rule.
