Considering Aitrus' spinoff from Jahbulon's basic
In a year when "The Fed forecasts three interest rate hikes for 2018" (CNBC), would it be wise to tweak my plan of sticking to Jahbulon's basic mix, which uses the F fund in January, june, August and September to Aitrus' homebrew V1, which substitutes the F for G fund? Or something similar?
Aitrus, particularly interested in hearing your thoughts on this. In most things, this included, I believe in sticking to a plan... until it makes sense to adjust the plan. When/if adjusting, adjust only as much as is necessary from the original course of action that made so much sense that it was taken in the first place.
This forum is a gold mine of knowledge, so glad i found it, thanks to all!

What I have done in the strategy (ID# 21486) I am following is to substitute L-Income wherever the strategy goes to F or G fund. I am hopeful that over the course of the year this will outperform both the F and G funds.

Amerks... that sounds pretty solid.
I may do the same. I’m likely doing one of these two this year: gclapper’s M3 Mix or tmj100’s Mix.
Already up 3+% YTD with a mix of starting in I, changing to C, and then just yesterday changing to a mix of C(10%)/S(20%)/I(70%).
Today was a great day; so I’m not sure what the totals may bring me (I can never figure out what I’ll get from I Fund) But I’ll likely switch to gclappee’s M3 mix and substitute L2040 or L2050 for the F. Maybe a safer L Fund, not really sure. I’m glad I refound this site. I signed up back in 2013 and forgot all about it.

For those looking at the L Funds to substitute for F, you might want to check the allocations on the TSP website. All L Funds have some percentage of F within them: L-Income has 80% in G&F (6%) & 20% in Stock Funds; L 2050 has 17.5% in G&F (6%) and the ones in-between currently have a little higher percentage in F Fund but all are under 7%. When they 1st started, F Fund has between 8-10% in F for the L-20XX funds. All but L-Income change quarterly

michande,
Sorry I haven't answered you back before now. I've been absent for a few days, and just now catching up on forum posts.
I think that switching over to Aitrus' Homebrew V1 to substitute G for the F Fund is a fine idea. Don't forget that Homebrew V1 was based on the Old Jahbu's Mix, which used S in January, otherwise it's the same.
Overall, making small changes rarely means big gains or losses. It's good that you're paying attention and thinking about the situation and how that affects your current strategy. Just be careful to keep emotion in check.
