Wow. Looks like the S&P is down 3.75% as of now for today. Trying not to panic. Frustrating it was just going up the other day. I guess we are in for a lot of ups and downs? Is everyone just being patient with this?
Good luck with your TSP and retirement plans!
Re: Hey, what's causing all funds to dive?
No. I bailed to G Tuesday and was fortunate to get out on a little bit of a bounce. Whether or not it makes sense to bail now or not, I have no idea. I was on the fence getting out Tuesday and got a bit lucky but like you, I didn't think the pain was over. SP500 is sitting at 2600 support right now. Tomorrow will be telling.
Re: Hey, what's causing all funds to dive?
I moved everything to G on Tuesday until things stabilize. After the positive gains on Tuesday I rolled the dice thinking it was a temporary thing. I too was lucky with the move and can cut my losses from Friday and Monday. I can ill afford to loose what I did in 2008.

You are only loosing when you sell, unless you get lucky. The ones who make out on something like this are those that missed it altogether and stayed out throughout the fall. Tomanyiron, we are all hating you right now, lol.
Re: Hey, what's causing all funds to dive?
This is a common fallacy because technically no one sells until they start pulling money out of their TSP and putting it in their checking accounts. Your balance equals the # of shares x the sales price of each share. Price goes up, balance goes up, money gained; price goes down, balance goes down, money lost.Octjan2 wrote:You are only loosing when you sell, unless you get lucky. Well last year when everyone was giving high-fives, and fist-bumps, I was working. It hurt getting left behind, but I knew my type system would payoff eventually. So I spent my time analyzing, correcting and fine-tuning.Octjan2 wrote:... The ones who make out on something like this are those that missed it altogether and stayed out throughout the fall. I am feeling pretty good right now considering what I would have lost today if I would not have moved .Octjan2 wrote:You are only loosing when you sell, unless you get lucky. There's going to be a pretty sharp V once a bottom is found. 200 day ma isn't too far off. If that holds that may be a good buy indicator.

I was thinking the same, but the deeper it goes, the odds of a "W" bottom increases.XAMOTOMAX wrote:There's going to be a pretty sharp V once a bottom is found. 200 day ma isn't too far off. If that holds that may be a good buy indicator.

The bounce is kinda meh today after such a fierce selloff to close yesterday. I don't trust it. Investors are still spooked. No one say boo lol.
Re: Hey, what's causing all funds to dive?
Where do you see the biggest buy opportunity? I've had 25% of my portfolio in G for this kind of opportunity. I'm looking at a bigger bounce from S Fund (versus I and C Funds)... interested in others thoughts.XAMOTOMAX wrote:There's going to be a pretty sharp V once a bottom is found. 200 day ma isn't too far off. I think I'm pulling the trigger and committing the reserve today (I've got about 20 minutes to debate). It will either stop the bleeding and speed the bounce, or add financial insult to injury.
Re: Hey, what's causing all funds to dive?
It's testing the 200 day moving average now. If it goes below and stays I may stay in G for a while. I'm not in a rush to jump back into this market with the current volatility but if the 200 day ma holds and we see some equilibrium and an indication of upward price consistency I'll look for a good day to get back in.
This is a good indicator too...

Re: Hey, what's causing all funds to dive?
I pulled the trigger on committing my reserve. I'm hoping to be near or at the bottom of a V. I agree with the volatility continuing for another week or so, but I'd be very surprised to see another week with this kind of drop off the cliff.
