What is found in the 5 funds? Let's look at the C Fund

Post by bizkikr »

Ever wondered what Blackrock actually does behind the scenes to drive the 5 funds? You won't find a satisfying answer on tsp.gov and BlackRock Institutional Trust Company won't make it easy. (The latter is responsible for maintaining the TSP funds for the unaware)

First off, the C Fund is designed to match the S&P500. Not the DOW, the NASDAQ, or the S&P. When people say the S&P that's laymen talk for I don't know what I'm saying. Not to be mean but there is the S&P100, the S&P200, the S&P1000 and so on. But the C Fund seeks to match the S&P500.

So to keep tabs on your C Fund, look for this ticker symbol ^GSPC

 "The S&P" is industry shorthand for the S&P 500 index. If someone happened to mean one of the other very rarely-cited Standard and Poor's index funds, they'd specify that.
