Just FYI, last year (fy18) the House endorsed the White House proposal by passing legislation that did not provide for any grandfathering of existing federal employees. For whatever reason, the Senate did not endorse the House version. This is a real threat to all existing federal employees. Times are differently different. Some positive some not so positive. I made the choice to let my elected officials know my position. I would recommend doing the same and share with friends, family, and co-workers. The more the better.

I like the way you flipped that around.

Sick leave abuse among federal civilians is a long-running problem as evidenced by this article that is 11 years old. Do you think times have changed? From the "management chair" that I sit in 10-hours a day, I can argue that they most certainly have not.
That article is just some guy's opinion. It's all anecdotal. I want facts. Where are the numbers that people abuse sick leave?

I'm not a fan of this downward race to the bottom when it comes to employee benefits. The "I got mine" attitude is so insecure and selfish. Why do we want future generations to have less than what we have? What's wrong with wanting people to succeed in life? We all realize what a great opportunity federal service is. Why discourage others from following the same career path? Because that's certainly what is going to happen if we start treating government careers like the private sector does.
Agreed. I always dislike the idea that people think that others can get worse than them because it won't affect them. I see the same attitude from the elderly that ask why they have to pay city taxes. They don't have kids in schools anymore. My point to that is that they always benefit because those kids will grow up one day to be their doctors or find a cure for their illnesses. My point to the "it won't affect me anyway" is that once they chip away at new hires, they will come for vested people too. I guess that's already what's happening. Thankfully, we've been fortunate that the senate hasn't allowed that to happen...yet.

Best,
