Any DISA folks nervous?

I don't see any/most of it happening, but it still makes me a little nervous.

All change is to be viewed as an improvement (but don't look behind the curtain).
I really like Thornberry's new math: DOD is required to save $25B but we're not going to take the money away.
They simply redid the organisational chart with fewer boxes, folded the lost personnel into existing boxes and called it a cost savings without changing the budget. Really modern math!

I don't think its possible to simply "replicate DISA inside other armed services". The others I'm not as familiar, but no way on DISA in these times of cybersecurity.
Re: Any DISA folks nervous?
How exactly did we get these 28 agencies to begin with? I'm sure each of the services(Army, Navy, AF) has an office or someone that deals with each of the agencies. I think we need a lot more streamlining or downsizing. The plan cuts DoD’s so-called “Fourth Estate” by 25 percent by 2021. The Fourth Estate is comprised of 28 agencies that are not part of a military service and employs 200,000 civilian personnel and nearly 600,000 contractors.
. . . .
Those agencies would be replicated within existing DoD agencies, where additional functions and personnel would be transferred.

As wikipedia says "The seeds of the Defense Logistics Agency were planted in World War II, when America’s military needed to get vast amounts of munitions and supplies quickly. During the war, the military services began to coordinate more when it came to procurement, particularly of petroleum products, medical supplies, clothing, and other commodities. The main offices of the Army and Navy for each commodity were collocated."evilanne wrote:How exactly did we get these 28 agencies to begin with? The dark truth is the services don't like to talk to and work together. As mentioned the groundwork was in WW2 when the services didn't talk about ordering supplies and coordinating moving them. Companies were able to make the Navy and the Army get into bidding wars for supplies for the same operations. As an example for Operations Overlord, the invasion of Normandy, both the Army and the Navy was trying to get fuel for the landing boats. Same boats, same requirement, same mission, but each was in a bidding war to just to get the fuel because they weren't talking.
So the Governments idea was just to create a bureaucracy to place orders against. A 1960's solution that can now be fixed by computers and a centralized ordering system that has joint support. No real need for another agency.
Just like DISA, created in 1960. Today the problems they were created to fix just need computers and joint operation communication.

Need to think purple suits...and eliminate much of the duplication across the board.ArrieS wrote:The dark truth is the services don't like to talk to and work together.
