Re: Tsp I
I spent the last 2 months in the I fund before going to G today. 2 months of stress and ended up only making about .2% gain. I look back at the yearly gains since it’s inception and found it has only averaged around 5% per year. Other than last year where we had a consistently falling dollar, the risk/reward doesn’t seem worth it in this fund. I did read that if the BOJ tweaks it’s monetary policy, as expected, next Tuesday it may send the Yen soaring, weakening the dollar, which could be good for the I fund. Thought about staying in until next week but was pleased to at least get out without a loss. Plan on setting out in August until there is a good dip to buy in the C or S.

I like the I fund as I find it worth the risk, but why did you roll in it through June? The S/C combo was doing great, until the tariffs tanked the gains. I just broke even for that month, but most seasonal strats advise the I July. I know you have more knowledge than me, but you definitely took a different approach. I believe that if the tariffs weren’t around, it’d be a different result for you.Octjan2 wrote:I spent the last 2 months in the I fund before going to G today. 2 months of stress and ended up only making about .2% gain. I bought in on May 28 because I thought the dollar was due for a breather and the I fund would benefit. The next day the I fund dropped 2%, in most part due to the Italy drama. I have a new rule that I won’t intentionally sell for less than I bought. Most people disagree with this philosophy. Because of that I was pretty much stuck. I still think there may be more of an opportunity in I than C and S right now, but I have really grown to dislike this fund. It may be better when TSP switches next year to a fund with more exposure.

Hope no one is left in the I Fund, China tariffs are going to cripple this fund.
