TSP Military and Civilian
Does anyone know if it's possible to roll your military TSP into your Civilian TSP?

It is not...I tried last year when I retired from active duty.

I think there are advantages to keeping both accounts separate. Since my military account is considerably smaller than my civilian account, I feel more comfortable in taking more risk with it. Also, you can combine your login to access both accounts at the same time. It's like having 2 or 3 more transfer options every month.
Re: TSP Military and Civilian
Yep, you can combine them. The TSP.gov site details how to process the TSP-65 form, Request to Combine Civilian and Uniformed Services TSP Accounts. Check it out under the "Participant Support" tab: https://www.tsp.gov/forms/uniformedServicesForms.html
Re: TSP Military and Civilian
Well, that's interesting! I called the TSP on the phone and was quickly told, "Nope, you can't combine a uniformed account with civilian account." Of course I was also told you can't have one log-on for two accounts too...that was bogus!23V23C wrote:Yep, you can combine them. After reading the instructions on the aforementioned transfer form, either the TSP misunderstood me or I misunderstood them (probably the later). About 1/2 of my TSP account is tax-exempt contributions made while deployed, so, I wouldn't be able to transfer HALF of my uniformed account to my civilian account.
Makes no sense. Why can't tax-exempt funds earned in a uniformed account be asterisked as "earned in uniformed service" and remain tax-exempt in a civilian account?? If you have $100K of "tax exempt contributions," wouldn't the same $100K remain "tax exempt contributions" even if was moved into a civilian account after military retirement???
Anyway, MY BAD...I apparently gave you an incorrect answer.

Maybe the tax except part is treated like a roth and isn't taxable when you pull it out... just a uninformed guy
