Many People Going to G Today?

Post by seawatcher »

Some leaders (and a lot of TSPGuru followers?) going from C,S to 100% G. What's the logic? Do we think the C,S funds are going to continue going down, down, down? At this point, it would seem to make more sense to wait instead of "selling low" back to G and wait for the markets to "spring back to life"? This is a huge pull back but I'm not finding information about a crash. Can C,S go much lower?
Good luck with your TSP and retirement plans!

I would love to hear thought process of bailing to the G. Trump now chiming in on fed. U know fed is listening regardless of independent nature. China getting its ass kicked with tariffs. I would just like to hear the logic

I agree. I guess they think we are headed for a bear market. I do not and still think we finish the year strong. I was in G and watched the S fund drop over 5% and bought in on 10-9-18. I saw the 10 year treasury seem to normalize again and thought it was a good time. Little did I know the real downturn was waiting on me the next day. The corporations and top 1% want you to sell so they can buy up your shares on the cheap. It is called wealth transfer. They get richer and the average guy loses retirement funds. Market confidence has taken a hit, so it will take a little time to recover.

I will have to agree with you why sell low?. I think we should see a bounce soon and 3000 by the end of the year on S&P 500. This my hopeful predictions ONLY. I am contrarian here :D lol

I'm sitting tight in C,S. Already used one IFT on October 1. If I use up a second IFT to go 100% to G, and stocks make a comeback, I'll miss it being unable to transfer back to C,S until November. Fingers crossed for a bounceback! Might not be this month but I'll take a chance.

I IFTied a little to S on 5 Oct then all 50-S 10-C. 25-I and 15-L50 today, 11 Oct. Fingers crossed, I sold C-S-50 high earlier this year and just added more cheap shares to my I fund stash. I’m thinking of treating the I Fund like the F (IFT out of I Fund as soon as I’m in the green).

I feel you seawatcher :x , I made a similar move to "S" on October 1st. Should have followed the seasonal strategy and I would have missed all of the losses so far. One day I'll learn...maybe.

I moved out of C/S to G in late September. I think I'm switching to 100% C on Monday. Starting to think I should have done it today. Regardless, I think I have some time to buy back in and still come out ahead if this is indeed the bottom, but who knows really.

I haven't decided what I am going to do, but the "experts" usually say: "Stay the course". A recommended allocation is approx. 25 to 30% C and 25 to 30% I funds. Then, put the rest in just G fund. I know some people doing 50% C and 50% S. But, there is a lot of scare lately saying that the stock market will tank and go down a lot for 2019 to 2020. The rest of this year, I don't have a clue. An expert friend of mine is about 60% stocks and 40% other investments outside the TSP. He averages 7% gain a year, taking into account good and bad years.

My Fantasy TSP changed to G on OCT 11 2018, I almost did it to my regular TSP too but I change my mind. I stayed with C and S. Stay the course:)
