2018 Tsp limit contribution

Post by managingts »

I'm maxing out my contribution this year, but got confused with the last pay period. Since the end of the last pay period is in the first week of Jan, will the contribution for that fall ubder 2018 or 2019? Thanks

I think you are getting TSP contributions mixed up with Leave Year. Two different things. To max out your TSP contributions, your contributions have to be paid out in 2018. If your last deposit to get you to the $18,500 limit is paid out in January 2019 then it will count toward next years contributions, and you will be short of the max in 2018. Hope this helps.

Your pay date is what counts, not your pay period.

For me, under DFAS and USMC, my last pay date of 2018 will be December 28th. That is my last 2018 TSP contribution.

So the pay period that starts on December 23rd will need to have my new 2019 allotment set.
