IFT Processing
From the TSP site
"IFTs made on this website or the ThriftLine before 12 noon Eastern time are generally processed as of that business day. Requests made after 12 noon Eastern time are generally processed the next business day."
So just for clarity's sake, if I make an IFT before 1200 EST, it is processed at the end of the trading cycle for that day and not midday?
If I IFT at 1201 EST or later, it will be processed at the end of the trading cycle the following day?
Thanks guys.

Re: IFT Processing
Yes on both accounts - you are correct.
Re: IFT Processing
Ok, so would there ever be a reason to IFT after 1200 if it won't be processed until the end of the next day anyway?
Just figure I'd get all the dumb questions out of the way today.....

Re: IFT Processing
Not dumb questions at all -
Depending on how your IFT strategy is, some may feel that they are coming out of a good-run and vice getting out the day after (IFT prior to 1200) they want to get out the 2nd day after (IFT after 1200). Or vice versa - maybe they want to jump in on the second day vice the first day.
Sometimes we forget to IFT which makes us come in the 2nd day in.
Technically though, after 1201 ... you have ALL the way to 1159 to make a decision.
Wonder if any of that made sense.

Re: IFT Processing
Unless you can see the future, I'm not sure why someone would make a move after 12:00 which would take effect 2 full days after that move. That is a complete guess to do but it happens all the time. This whole thing is a guessing game.

That's what I have been curious about. Thanks, just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something here.

Re: IFT Processing
Very good point ... the only time I've ever put in an IFT after 1200ish has ALWAYS been because I was late to get my IFT in. Technically, in doing so, I have up to 1159 (the next day) to make a change or cancel it all together.

1201 pm to 1159 am the next day are the same.danho wrote:Ok, so would there ever be a reason to IFT after 1200 if it won't be processed until the end of the next day anyway?

Sometimes I put my IFT in after work so that I don't forget to do it in the morning.
Mainly this is for people that are following a Monthly/Daily strategy (or any strategy) and know they will be making an IFT for a certain day

Re: IFT Processing
One reason you may see people doing it here is because they are following a very strict strategy. Usually seasonal in nature. It takes out ALL EMOTION. In such a case, it doesn't matter what happens the following day. You know when you are going to move and you know where you are moving to. So doing it after 12:01 pm the day before it is due is akin to knocking something off your todo list as soon as possible.

And you have that time to change your mind, remove it, or move to different fund.Scarfinger wrote:... 1201 pm to 1159 am the next day are the same.. .

Re: IFT Processing
I just made an IFT before noon on 11/26-today. According to tsp.gov page, it says will become effective before close on 11/27 but that I have until noon that day {11/27} to change or cancel. So now i'm confused. Maybe they need time to update what its saying? They are giving me the button to click to change pending IFT, and it was made BEFORE noon today {11/26}.

Re: IFT Processing
Sometimes they aren't processed before noon on time, for max effect process by 11:45AM. Now you have till tomorrow at lunch (noon), to move or cancel, at 12:01, you're locked in the move, and will appear in the fund of your choice, Wednesday morning!seabass wrote:I just made an IFT before noon on 11/26-today. Re: IFT Processing
If you made the IFT prior to 12:00 you cannot change it after 12:00 that same day because it should be effective tomorrow in the morning (or close of today). If you made it after 12, you can make/adjust that change until 12 the next day because it will not take effect until the "closing" of that following day. Hope this helps.
I made a move today prior to 12 and that should take effect at the closing of today meaning tomorrow I will have my new allocations in place for the day.
