New I Fund, will it make a difference?

New I Fund, will it make a difference?
Has anyone taken a look into TSP's new I Fund potential for 2019? Will the move from tracking MSCI EAFE to tracking MSCI ACWI Ex-US IMI make it more appealing for the daily TSPCalc strategies? I searched through the forums for a similar post and found none. My apologies if this is a repeat of the things that make you go Hmmmmm.

For now, I'm still avoiding the I Fund, regardless of the make-up of the countries it contains. One of my projects for 2019 is to do a top-to-bottom compilation of monthly returns for the new index the I Fund tracks, just as I did for all the other Funds way back in the beginning. This will mean I have to re-assess any Seasonal Mixes that use the I Fund based on the new CAGR/PNR results I discover.

If this does happen, I will have some work to do. Same as Aitrus.23V23C wrote:Has anyone taken a look into TSP's new I Fund potential for 2019? I've been following both the EFA & IEFA indexes. On a weekly average they generally follow the -I- fund, buy on a daily basis they can easily vary up to 1% from the -I- fund. Just added the ACWI to my list.

I have been using ACWI for the I fund strength. With the KAMA (3,2,36) of RSI (14). At Friday's close it was at 41.98, and on a scale of 1-100, that looks about right to me.

Similar to the old index, it is underweight global tech and has heavy exposure to financials. Neither are good. Geographically they added China and Canada and a few other smaller countries. I have issues with adding China - the land of a million ponzi schemes - at this point in time.
The old and new I fund will continue to have strong seasonal tendencies in terms of the 6 favorable and unfavorable months. Stay away from this fund in the summer/fall and you will do okay.
The new fund claims to hold small caps, but they would be of low weighting and it should have little effect.
