does your fantasy tsp mirror your real tsp?

Post by misfit »

I'm not sure if this has been done in the past. Is it possible for someone to set up a survey on here to see if the folks who make the IFT's on here mimic their real Fed TSP accounts or are they just winging it to be on top? I'm very curious. Thanks!

My fantasy tsp is a mirror of my real tsp. This was intentional from the start. Tsp center is just a good place to view stats, get ideas and look at other peoples tactics/strategy. TSP center is a sand box that is easy to use and access. I'm here to learn and experiment with market timing. My goal is to maximize my return while protecting my earnings more aggressively than I have as a "buy and hold" person. I'm hoping to spend more time in G and take whatever shots I can to keep moving ahead in the green as I head towards the finish line. With y'all's help, I've managed to significantly beat my past strategy since starting my fantasy tsp in Sept 2018. So far so good. I'm honored to be in such good company and excited about keeping it going.

I am a mimicker too. Lost all my gains and now I am losing my own money. Holy cow!

I jist accepted my losses aka locked them in and moved to G on my real life tsp. I'll jump back in when the daily tells me to, but on here I'm staying tight with the S fund d for a goof. Typically, it's 100% mirrored.

I mirror it with my real TSP also. Except when TSP Center misses or incorrectly posts an update and I had a trade in....

I use TSP as a tracker that gives me much more information and number manipulation than the TSP website. I also use it to track Mr. Perfect and his nemesis... :P

Depending on the number of times this site fails to recalculate a nightly change you can stay fairly close to your real Account in terms of percentile gain or loss. But I recommend you stay close to your real Account to be sure it is allocated the way you want for maximum real gain in your retirement funding program.

Absolutely. I mirror this fantasy TSP with my real TSP and have done so over the last several years. I make this site part of my daily stock market check. Each evening, I look forward to the daily fund gains being updated to see if my strategy works. This, combined with help from StockCharts.com (and a little bit of luck) has helped me reach my early gain goals of near or better than 10% over the last 3 years. Retirement is going to be amazing !
Trying for a yearly gain of at least 9 %. Wish me luck !

The correlation between the two (2): Fantasy vice Real has remained 98.3% (with a Standard Deviation (σ) of a +/- 1%) over the past 9 years. Recently, they have become out of alignment, for which I am extremely grateful. Cybercom has also (recently) deemed this site to be GAMBLING, which makes any IFTs challenging on any given day...

tspcenter remains a vehicle towards confirmation that I may be investing in somewhat of a non-irrational manner.

Mine matches as well. I try to do as well as I can on this site; why would I want to do any less in the real world?

"If you don’t know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else."

Yes I do mirror my real TSP account. I don’t have a problem logging in to both sites, and repeating the IFTs. I just calculated my real YTD, it’s at +5.01%, (TSPCenter says 5% even). Only off 0.01%, I was surprised because we have had a few technical snafus with TSPCenter. Prices not updated correctly and IFTs not processed on the day submitted. I guess, in my case, the errors canceled each other out.

Why do I match the two? The best answer I can give is, I’m just not a complicated guy. I like looking at one and seeing the same thing as the other. And knowing where my success and screw-ups have been. You need to know where you are going, and where you have been. Have as many reminders, as possible as to what works and what doesn't.

I am 100% matching to my TSP. For the year, I am down -4.58%, from a high of 6.45%. I started here one month later, than I did in my real TSP. Had a strong summer following 39794.

Currently -- hoping I am on Santa's nice list for a rally.
