I Fund - Role in Your TSP

Post by seawatcher »

Questions about the I Fund Do you invest in the I Fund? Love it or hate it? Why? For whatever percent of your TSP is in stocks, why not just use C and S funds that have performed better than the I fund? I do not understand why the L Lifecycle funds invest a much higher percent in I than S. Thanks for the discussion.
Good luck with your TSP and retirement plans!

When the dollar goes up, the I fund goes down, and vice versa. When international stock prices are performing well and dollar is diving it magnifies the impact of the returns. You can follow a US Dollar index, perhaps UUP but others may have better suggestions. I-fund can have some large swings. Overall, I like US companies in my portfolio, so I naturally like C and S better than I. I can't say why L funds use I more than C or S, except that the percentages of that mix is supposed to be right for a person in that age range, according to some experts somewhere, based on risk vs. age stratagem.

I am following a strategy that puts me in the I fund starting on Thursday April 4 through Wednesday April 25, so we'll see how that works out! UUP is at the top of a range in a cycle of about two weeks from top to bottom/bottom to top, and has a pretty good chance of falling soon if that pattern continues, so right now it looks like a good trade.

I'm not sure the I Fund exists to keep us from focusing too much on "I" because it will humble you.

Many IFTs to I Fund Today

Post by seawatcher »

Many IFTs to I Fund today. Can anyone who is IFT to I today explain your reason?

I'm sure I'm missing something but doesn't seem like I is likely to go up more than S or C right now. So far today, the I fund is going up (EFA) but so are the S fund (DWCPF) and C fund (SPX). Of course it is only 10:50am eastern time.

I read some information about the dollar could be bearish but not certain. Or maybe there are just a lot of people on my watch list following the leader.
