I Fund and Brexit

Post by Jalpunk »

Like many I am in the I-fund this month as April is traditionally good for the I-fund. I am wondering if there could be any major negative effect on the I-fund from the looming Brexit deadline on April 12th. Obviously Brexit has been going on for a while, so perhaps its already baked in, but I am fairly ignorant on the issue and wondering if anyone has some insight on what effects, if any, there could be given that they haven't been able to agree on a Brexit deal. Thanks!

Don't bet on Brexit, it has been a delay after delay. Focus on US Trade deals and Mexico Border for the I fund. If the China Trade deal goes through, going to be a huge month. Also, a big IF that has had delays.

The British parliament (lower house) just voted that they did not want to have a "hard" Brexit at all costs. Most likely that means either (a) that there will be a "soft" Brexit or (b) no Brexit at all. The UK still can't get their act together, but if anything other than a hard Brexit is formalized then you should see some stock gains for the I Fund (remember that a big chunk is invested in the UK market for EFA). The other point to watch is Japan, which is another big chunk of the I Fund. They seem to be doing well (enough) although they are presently in a spat with the US in regards to a different trade "deal."

Having said all of that, I'm sticking with I for April.

Oh and there is talk that inflation will hit the US in the latter part of this year. That will/should push the $ back down causing the I Fund to do well again.

Enjoy!

Best,

Me

EU-China appears to be in a trade 'tension' and there is a bump in the road that may curve some of the earnings next week for the I...if the U.S. falters on similar issues...of human rights...

I don't think they have added China to the I Fund although it could have +/- impact on other countries that are included.

Tomorrow is April 12. Vote delayed to October? I-Fund has not done anything much this month up or down, dollar rallying? I'm wondering if tomorrow will bring a rally or just more of not much movement.
Good luck with your TSP and retirement plans!
