Should I hold out?
I have been holding on to C &S but now I'm wondering if I should go to G or F?
Do you think we are about to see a big drop?
Any advice would be great....Thanks.

I would hate to give someone bad advice but you only lose if you sell. Last year I got caught but I stayed put. Got my loses back fairly quickly. Every situation is different though.

I had been advising people to go to the G fund, but sometimes your better off in the long run to ride out the storm. This could end up being a great buying opportunity long term, especially if you don't need the money next week.
Re: Should I hold out?
No one really knows. People that get paid big bucks disagree on what the market will do. Much depends on your personal situation and how much risk you can handle. If you are nearing retirement, you should go to safety. If you are young, sit your money in C and don't look at it for a decade or so.
I held on when the going got tough in December and wish I hadn't. This time I fled to safety on Friday. Most of the talking heads I saw on CNBC seem to think there is more downside to go. Most seem to think a 7-10% correction. But really, no one knows.

Did the same as Pristed, held on to long in December. Using one of my blue chip interfund transfer and putting my money to sleep for a few days only!!!! Retired and living In Europe age 56 years young.

Repeating the chorus: no one knows.
I moved about half over to the F Fund last week and I'm happy I did. Moving it now, I'd be afraid I was just locking in losses.
I didn't move anything during the December drop, and just rode it out and it did come back up after a few months.

the Top is in. trend is now down with big rips to the upside. here comes a lower high and then a low
Re: Should I hold out?
I'm not really following. Last week you said a bottom was in and you bought into S on Thurs. Now you are saying a top is in and we should sell. This is the TSP we are talking about with only 2 moves per month yet you are giving conflicting advice within days.TSP Jedi wrote:the Top is in. trend is now down with big rips to the upside. here comes a lower high and then a low

Good advice...Thanks.
I have 17 years before I retire so I"m going to hold tight for now.
Thanks your your thoughts.

Re: Should I hold out?
TSP Jedi. Yes, I guess I must be confused. Let me get this straight.
So I should have bought S on Thu (like you did) and then sold it on Tue (like you advised above). Let's see, my net on that move would have been -2.82%. And now I'm all out of moves for May. Um, no thanks...

I agree with PhilJohn. I think in the long run we will bounce back and then some. Just look at what happened in December and the rebound afterwards.PhilJohn wrote:I would hate to give someone bad advice but you only lose if you sell. Last year I got caught but I stayed put. Re: Should I hold out?
Thursday close is when TSP credits my contributions to my account and purchases shares. So if it does poorly I will get $800 of cheap L2030 shares. Since I have 8 years 7.5 months to go before retirement I have some time to ride things out.Scorpio70 wrote: This could end up being a great buying opportunity long term, especially if you don't need the money next week.
