Home sales follow rates... Down
For those that follow the housing market. Is the sales downturn following a seasonal tread?
Re: Home sales follow rates... Down
I'm not sure if they're closely linked to the overall job rate or Federal Reserve's interest rate, but the housing sector of the economy definitely has a seasonal trend: trending up in the spring, flatlining in the summer, trending down in the fall/winter. This is due mostly to people tending to move to new geographic locations more in spring and summer and not in fall fall or winter. This means that more new homes get started in the spring, and home buying and selling is more often done in spring and summer.

Re: Home sales follow rates... Down
Thanks, Aitrus. That makes sense, I was thinking the housing market would have had some more strength as the rates lowered. I was expecting a causation but didn't see it.
Re: Home sales follow rates... Down
It might also be a delayed stat. Some may be waiting for the next rate cut.

Are we expecting another rate cut soon?nikko wrote:It might also be a delayed stat. Some may be waiting for the next rate cut.
