Yes, unfortunately we blow up stuff and then have to replenish our inventories but hoping we don't get into anything soon. There are many places we should not be in the world IMHO

Funny cartoon. I believe Mr Dupont took the credit for developing dynamite as a safer form of nitroglycerin. We visited his old mansion and gardens near Philadelphia. I highly recommend, if you're in the area.

Why are a lot of folks switching to S or C today? This pending Israeli invasion of Gaza has me spooked. I'm staying in G for now.

I suspect many of the moves are due to seasonality. The "S" fund has been down nearly 3% yesterday and today so it could fare well for many.

It's funny how what one believes or recalls can be be untrue.

I recalled that Alfred Nobel invented dynamite, so I looked it up. His invention was inspired by the death of a brother in the family nitroglycerin factory.

I also recalled that he felt guilty about the use of his many (355 patents) inventions for harm, hence the namesake prizes. Ascanio Sobrero, the inventor of nitroglycerine, felt similarly, and kept his discovery a secret for more than a year. Like Noble, he did not die at the hand of his invention. I suspect that the Darwin Awards committee of the 19th century was disappointed.

You're absolutely right. I guess the Du Pont family just got filthy rich making dynamite and other explosives here in the US. Anyway, Longwood is the name of their garden estate.

The DuPonts weren't all bad. They failed to make the Who's Who of Robber Barons, and had a more philanthropic leaning than many industrialists.

The fountain show at Longwood Gardens is impressive. If you are in the area, I recommend the the DuPont's Winterthur estate/museum, especially at Christmas.

I'm thinking about getting back in today. S-fund seems most tempting today (down well over 10% the last 3 months). Any thoughts or suggestions?

Statistically, buying now and selling before year-end is significantly in your favor *

Well, I did it; 100% S-fund (effective Monday). Bloobs, I've heard this before, but my decision was based mainly on some stuff I heard in the news earlier today. Hope I didn't make a mistake.

The big news today is Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana elected speaker. From some articles I've read, a government shutdown is now almost certain for Nov 17. Sounds like if you're still working, you can on an unexpected vacation. This also is not good news for the markets. I guess I'll ride it out for now.
