Seasonal investing outside TSP

Seasonal investing outside TSP
Hi all,
For the past few years, I have been following a seasonal investing strategy with my TSP and have been satisfied with the results. I just opened a traditional IRA with Vanguard with the funds placed in index funds (VTI, VOO, BND, VXUS), but it seems strange to do seasonal investing in one account and buy and hold in another. I don't want to manage as intensely as I do with TSP, but am thinking some once a month trades may work.
What are your thoughts on outside TSP investing strategies and how do they differ from your TSP?

If you're interested in seasonal investing, then I would heavily suggest going to here https://jayonthemarkets.com/ and reading everything this man says like your seasonal Bible. I've gone through less than 50% of the website and everything he says is amazing (and free). Furthermore, he's very accessible to speak to and knows the investing world like none other.mrwawa wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 8:07 am Hi all,

As a result of interactions with him, I used https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/ to build my own strategies. Last year I beat the S&P by 36%...but not every year has been that great. I still have much work to do and more things to learn before I feel fully comfortable with what I'm doing. Nonetheless, in playing with data (and indices) and backtesting, you learn so much about how the market works (even if I'm no where near knowledgeable as a professional or someone that's managed other people's money).
Enjoy!

Thanks for the great insights! It looks like www.jayonthemarkets.com has merged with www.sentimentrader.com. I will go through jayonthematkets.com and then move to www.sentimentrader.com

He did move in that direction, but his website is loaded with amazing finds. He also wrote books, but I am having a hard time in finding the moments to read them. Perhaps your family situation is less chaotic? In any case, based on his work, you can understand the markets a million times better. He's also on Twitter/X and provides amazing seasonal investing information. Note that there are many great people with great ideas...but Jay is a seasonal investing expert.mrwawa wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 10:57 am Thanks for the great insights! If you want to see what he's up to now...this is a recent video he posted on current indicators and how he views the market. If you pay attention, he teaches you how to view different indicators and how to use them. That'll save some of the time spent on his website https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G1Vfh86ovU. Enjoy!
Re: Seasonal investing outside TSP
Thanks again, Bubba. I am going through his blog posts and have bought his book. I really like the way he explains the market. As I said, I have been following seasonal investing, and doing okay, but want to know more about the underlying mechanisms. I'll check out the video.
