Dear all,
I know that most don't like the Mutual Fund Window...but I thought I would post this anyway. I just called the TSP and got some important answers that others might like to know:
1. All moves within the Mutual Fund Window are not considered a part of your monthly allotment within the TSP. The only move that is considered a part of the monthly allotment is whenever you move cash into the Mutual Fund Window.
2. There are no holding periods for the mutual funds, so you could buy and sell all within a fair amount of time (I suspect you would need 2 or 3 days for the settlement, but that's it).
3. They also said you can freely sandbox within the MFW. The only time it costs money is if you actually buy a fund.
Happy New Year!
My best,
Bubba

Re: Mutual Fund Window
Given the amazing engagement this post got, I figured I would throw in another little nugget of knowledge for anyone remotely interested. Interestingly enough, the MFW does offer leveraged fund trading. Apparently they have virtually every mutual fund offered by ProFunds. Interestingly, Rydex and Direxion did not make it into the MFW. What's even more interesting is that the guy that I spoke with on my phone call (mentioned above) told me that virtually every mutual fund you can think of that's available on the US stock exchange is also available via the MFW. Not so for leveraged funds, although I'm pretty psyched to make use of those funds. Good luck to all!
