It took me from 2002 - 2014 to reach $40k (of which $35k were my own contributions plus civil service matching). Since I started following seasonal with a passion in 2014, I crossed the $100k mark in late 2019, and the end of 2023 has me knocking on the door of $200k.

I have another decade and a half to go before retiring for good from the civil service, and I like what the future holds.
WOW, you had a very unproductive first 12 yrs. Definitely made up for it from 14 - 23……..NICE

I would have started investing in the C Fund from the start (They only had 3 funds back then) although the G Fund was paying between 8-9%

I might have went a lil’ heavier into Gold when it was $30.00 an ounce; used to buy an ounce for the Boy’s on their Birthday’s & at Christmas. Turned out to be quite the Start-up Fund (for each) when they turned 18 (respectively)…

Also, Bitcoin was such the lure when it was at $700, though because it was traded primarily on a Russian Exchange, I laid off of it in its early onset…

“All in” posturing (Stock-Wise) has served me well over the years’ & I don’t think I would have changed that tactic…

I’m either “all in” or “all out” depending on the atmosphere…

Finally, my “picker” appeared to broken with many of the women I dated & (subsequently) Married, wish I would paid more attention to my motives in the pursuance of such…

Definitely max contributions into C and then forgot about it until retirement. But if TSPcenter and TSPcalc had been around back then........

I'd probably be a multi millionaire.

Yeah, TSPCenter was around...I was just too busy with other things. Thankfully I have a couple of decades left, but if I had 30 to 40 years in the system...man that would have been awesome! I'm just glad that we have TSPCalc now. :D

...I would be buy and hold, all stocks, until 10 years out from retirement. Then reallocate according to my goals and timeline.

I've been in TSP since 2002. I think that I have done pretty well for the most part (only had two negative years in all that time). Hindsight is 20/20, but I guess the only thing that I would really change would be to pay more attention to my account earlier on. Those first few years I just put everything 50/50 in S & C, and rarely even checked on my account. I could have done better back then.
