Re: FERS CSRS Sick Leave

Post by Scarfinger »

My goal is to save 1 year of sick time to increased my time in service. I don't get sick and I use annual leave for scheduled dentist/Doctor appts. I plan on only using my sick level of unscheduled sickness... But then there is the question of is it work it. Or, the question could be does it make financial sense.

And from all my calculations... no it is not worth it financially just looking at the numbers unless you are going to live into your 100's. Actually I would have to live to 150 years old to break even considering my current salary.

One more year on my pension calculation adds 60 dollars a month. It makes more sense to take 1 year off (if you can) and get paid your full salary. Or retire and then live 90 more years to break even.

I still plan on saving 1 year of sick time...you never know I may need to use it for a knee replacement of something else.. hope not though :)
I am just an average Joe. I have no clue to what the market will do.
