Best places to work (federal agenciy rankings)

Post by scottdw85 »

Just found an interesting site that ranks different federal agencies in terms of best places to work.

http://bestplacestowork.org/BPTW/

For large agencies, NASA takes the top and the Homeland Security is the lowest.

Comparing all sizes, the OIG for the TVA is at the top whereas the Federal Election Commission is at the bottom.

I'm AF which scored a 59.3. That seems about right.

How about you?

They say the Navy is good, but you don't see any listing for it until the last group, number 181 on the list. Lot of unhappy people during the Obama years. Let's see how Trump treats us.

With large agencies, I'm sure there is a lot of variation within the subcomponents. I rate Retirement 100%

CBP in DHS. I think TSA brings the DHS score very low. I also spent 2 years on the southwest border which was terrible. Now that I'm talking to Canadians everyday I enjoy my job!

Coast Guard:

64/305 with a 71.1 rating. Interesting enough, the parent agency (DHS) is ranked as the bottom of the barrel for "large agencies."

I find it rather disconcerting that the VA is ranked right there with DHS...at the bottom of the pile.

Work for the Army now: Large Agency 16/18 rating 57.8

U.S. Army Materiel Command (Army) 264/305 rating 53.2

Civilian in Air Mobility Command (AMC), a sub-compartment in the Air Force. 59.3 for the overall Air Force and 63.6 for AMC seems about right. It's not as fun to be in the Air Force as it was when I first joined in '98. Too much politics, too much focus on social issues rather than the mission, too much focus on appearance over substance, and too much trying to be like the Army (no offense to the grunts in the room).

I'm in the Air National Guard on the weekends. 71.7 is pretty close to the mark. There's still a lot of the same issues as with the regular AF, but not as bad, and the morale is better.

NASA

I don't have experience outside of this agency, but there are no complaints here!
