DOD Furlough Stand Down?

Post by Relevant »

Hot off the press - By order of the Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller. The services have been directed to NOT issue furlough notices until directed by OSD. This was issued at 5pm EST on March 20, 2013.

It sounds to me that there may still be hope that a furlough can be avoided. If I hear anything new I'll be sure to update this post.

Do you have a source for this? The rumor mill here is that furlough letters are coming tomorrow.

The e-mail I read came straight from the "Horses Mouths"

The Honorable Robert F. Hale, Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller and Jessica L. Wright, Acting Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel & Readiness.

Update from same source - furlough notices delayed until 05 Apr. OSD is reviewing proposed legislation for impact on the overall number of furlough days required. They are also reviewing the components requested exceptions to furlough.

Still looks like furloughs are likely but maybe a lesser impact. Still hoping!

My bad attitude? This is just a ruse to fund favorite programs, pretend they tried, and make the DoD civilian bear the largest brunt of petulant Presidental greed for glory plus Congressional refusal to shoulder responsibility. Watch the number of pet projects amdended into the bill for a measure of culpability.
