Shenanigans
With less than a week left in FY2013, is anyone else on here bracing for an even worse FY2014 for the civil service? My immediate chain have not received any guidance on what to do, so I'm assuming no imminent furloughs. This will be my first government shutdown, so I'm not sure what to expect here.
This is all, of course, predicated on the continued Legislative-Executive branch drama. Which leads me to this follow up. Is anyone else wondering what we are continuing to pay these politicians for? 4+ years of not passing a budget, political infighting that resembles schoolyard behavior we should have outgrown by high school, (continued examples ad nauseum).
Basically, is anyone else out there fed up with being a pawn in a silly game that these people are waging with our livelihoods?

I'm thinking about researching genealogy to see if I have any elderly rich relatives.

Ah yes!, the elite fraternities of lawyers and the like. The two parties of flustered and ardent disposition!

Re: Shenanigans
In your case, I'm afraid, no news is NOT technically good news... Here's what just came through my gov email:
"The current resolution action act expires at midnight 30 September 2013. As
of today, neither an appropriations act nor an extended current continuing
resolution has been enacted. This MAY result in a Government shutdown on 1
October.
If a shutdown were to occur, you are to report for duty on 1 October where
you will be given furlough notifications and allowed to perform minimal
duties to allow for an orderly shutdown (NTE 4 hours). These hours for
receiving your notification letter and performing shutdown procedures will
be accrued and paid when Congress makes appropriated funds available.
We do not anticipate that any non-military {my organization] employee will be excepted from the furlough with the possible exception of those who are currently serving in theater.
Although IT equipment will not be turned in, IF a Government shutdown does
occur, you may NOT perform work benefiting the Army either on your
Government or personal equipment.
It is recommended that you avoid travel until such time as Congress
signs the appropriations act or extends continuing resolution authority.
If a shutdown does occur, return to work notifications will be posted on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website (http://www.opm.gov) and other media outlets.
We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

frankwhite,
While the news is indeed not good, I really appreciate you sharing this information. Thank you and may God bless everyone here as we move closer to 1 Oct. I hope to be at work, performing more research on my breaks on this site, come that time.

My organization in Maryland has predicted about a 20% reduction in spending, RIFs to come also. More than 30% of our contractor work force will be reduced.
Re: Shenanigans
Hello OCT 1... although I am not directly affected by the shut down, many of the organizations and branches of service we deal with daily have been. Today has been a time of great reflection on where we are at as a country and about the puppeteers who are pulling the strings. God Bless!
