Here's a question.... what value added is the Rep Point system to the main purpose of this site? It's kind of like the FB mentality of how many 'likes' can this post get. It is a useless data point that means nothing. In reality, the Rep Point system aint going to put $$$ in my TSP now is it?

Ron it’s kind of got hijacked a little lately. But I think the intent was a way of recognizing members for their contributions. Some people find the forum entrees helpful. They provided you with info, things that you did not know about before.

When I read someone’s post, I’m not familiar with, I glance at their rep points, then their Fantasy. The combination of both can add a little value or respect for their comments.

It may if it inspired you to look into something you never thought about.

Regardless of the validity of the reputation point system or linking it to how people talk to each other... civility should never be compromised. The point system can be fixed. People who don't want to respect other people is a little more difficult.

i think an overwhelming majority would be in favor of no trolling/belligerence in these forums--that's not to say i can't appreciate a good troll... just not here

I've never really understood the need for the system. If someone disagrees with a post, respond and voice the concern, but don't take anonymous jabs. If you keep the system in place, perhaps offering full transparency would reduce the childish antics, e.g. "Member NAME gave negative rep points to Member NAME". Maybe then the repeat offenders will get called out and have to justify, if they can.
