Wife works for a contractor... Retirement fund question

Post by managingts »

My wife works for a contractor. I'm trying trying to create a strategy based on the funds present in her retirement plan. She talked to the investment representative and was told that the funds don't have ticker symbols because they are institutionalized (don't know what it means). So, now I'm trying to find comparable funds out there so I can make some good investment strategy (i.e. when to in and out of funds).

I was able to get some information on some funds but not the three noted below.

These are the funds that I can't seem to get a good grasp on what comparable funds out there that I can use:
State Street Russell Large Cap Value Index Fund - Class A
State Street Russell Large Cap Growth Index Fund - Class A
State Street Russell Small Cap Index Fund - Class A

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Ugh, that's going to be a tough one. I know there are numerous funds out there with the Russell name attached to them but nothing specific here and then I see nothing on how to determine what equivalent funds might be.

I will soon be going over this exercise with my wife as well as she just started a new job

You could start by doing a Google search on Vanguard Russell and look at the 1000, 2000, and 3000. Then these will give you links for cheaper Vanguard ETFs, like VB for the Vanguard Russell 2000. Also search for Russell on the Vanguard site. I don't own any of these. Good luck.
