Protectionist Move on Steel & Aluminum

Post by MakeMe$$$$ »

Downer, Downer, Downer

Clearly the markets are not happy with the sudden slapping of tariffs. US Steel might be happy for now but the rest of the market isn't.

I know, some folks will say YAAAA! MAGA!

Others will yell, "The sky is falling!"

I'm not taking a single day fo the stocks as my final statement but I think this is a slipper slope we have just entered. It remains to be seen how these tariffs will actually be applied. We have no details to know but even if it is reasonably targeted we just may have witnessed the potential beginnings of a fledgling trade war. If it plays out like the events leading to WWI, this could be massive.

Waiting to see if another shoe drops.

Seems like this may be the reason the C fund fell much more than the S fund today.

Concerns about a trade war will hurt the largest American companies more than small ones who's only business is in America.

Real problem is this can start a trade war with the wrong people.

China who has depressed the price of steel on the world market, isn't even in the top ten of countries we import steel from.

This means attacking Canada and Europe. Not good.

I hope the Whitehouse clarifies this is only against China or not a blanket one against our good trading partners.

I'm good with that! However...

The messaging of the WH is becoming so dysfunctional you can't believe it has a real policy on much of anything.

Trump, “When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win,”...“Example, when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don’t trade anymore-we win big. It’s easy!”

Where is the policy?

There is speculation Cohn might resign. Supposedly that could spook the market too.

I learned a new word the other day. Its kakistocracy.
