New FEP Blue Focus plan

Re: New FEP Blue Focus plan
I've been pleased with the GEHA Dental plan for many years. Pretty wide acceptance and a normal year will accrue savings roughly equal to premiums, i.e. a wash. The value is in their coverage for unforeseen expensive stuff, which they seem to do pretty well.
Re: New FEP Blue Focus plan
I just signed up for GEHA, PPO High option at a blazing cost of $107.60 for me and my family, and then AETNA, PPO High Option for vision at the whopping monthly premium of $36.55...I am Tricare prime for my health insurance (retired Military) and I was under (Delta Dental) for my dental and then vision was covered under TriCare I think...to be honest I never really paid that close of attention to what was covered under either program...My wife did all that but this open season she made me make the hard choices...I just went with what appeared to covered the most at the least price...lol!

Vision is a waste of money. I think mine used to cost $7 a paycheck, but I read a lot on the plans and realised it's all bs. Dental by Emblem is pretty damn good, and pretty cheap. However, with dental, you won't avoid high out of pocket costs for root canals which need porcelain/ceramic crowns, braces, etc.

Re: New FEP Blue Focus plan
Tcatlin,
Your original question was regarding the new Blue Focus plan. The Focus plan has copays and a little higher deductibles than basic ($500/$1000). Your basic plan has no copays. To me, Blue Focus looks like a good plan to partner with Tricare. Tricare is the medical coverage military retirees have and pays second to BCBS.

I don't consider Vision a waste when my child has really bad eyesight that has progressively gotten worse since she was 5. I spend a lot of money on glasses and contacts and if I can get even a little of that money covered by insurance I'd be happy. We're hoping her eyes will stabilize in the near future to a point where we can have lasik surgery done for her but until then, having vision insurance is the best way for me to go.
Dental insurance is IMO the craziest as regards to cost. If you take care of your teeth...you shouldn't have any problems at the dentist and thus lower dental bills....but they're still going to charge you an arm and a leg for the insurance....I pay more for dental than I do for my health insurance. It's just crazy to me!
