This is a nice surprise. I live near a base with a large commissary and PX. It'll be nice shopping at the PX for tax-free appliances.

Think I'm missing something, can't anyone with a DD-214 already shop there? DD-214 from retirement/separation/etc...
No clue what I'm doing, but willing to learn.

No. A DD Form 214 is a record of discharge.

If a person did not retire, and if their DD Form 214 states that the discharge was Honorable, then that person can apply for online shopping at the BX/PX. Right now they are not authorized to shop at brick and mortar BX/PX facilities. And right now they are not authorized any Commissary shopping benefit.

Starting in 2020, Honorably discharged veterans with a service-connected disability will be able to shop in brick and mortar Commissaries and Exchanges.

Interesting, guess that's good... been in for almost 10 years, stopped shopping on base 7+ years ago. It's out of the way, traffic makes the commute 25ish minutes, commissary looks like it's from the 60/70s. I'll take HEB anyday

For some of our Vets it will also mean a chance to reconnect to a military community. I think that's good also.
