Quiet improvement

In our last report of a week ago, we had suggested focusing on the action of the current cycle's leading stocks:
"If these show distribution in the days ahead, this will be an objective sign that the general market weakness is likely to extend further. Conversely, if these remain stout, and show some accumulation days, the averages' decline may be numbered."
Since then, most of the leaders have firmed, with some breaking to new highs. This was objective evidence that the averages' decline may be numbered, as noted above. Intermediate-term speculators, or players who seek to hold a position for several weeks to several months, have a few opportunities that set up in technical basing patterns.
